The Elegius Mini Equine Sanctuary is a 501c3 dedicated to the care and support of miniature horses, donkeys, and mules especially those for which other options are not suitable due to the mini equine's age, injury, disposition, or medical needs. We offer permanent, life-long care for our equine residents needing it, and adoptions for those who can be placed into loving homes. Our facilities are designed specifically for mini equine. Since 2017, the Sanctuary has become the home of over 100 mini equines.

HCHS is a small, foster-based, volunteer-run animal rescue in the rural mountains of VA. We serve Highland County VA and our neighboring WV counties. HCHS relies solely on donations, grants and fundraising.

The James River Horse Foundation rescues former racehorses and uses them in an equine vocational program for select inmates at the State Farm Work Center in Goochland County. The horses are rehabilitated and then adopted out, if possible, or given sanctuary for life. The program teaches equine care, stable management and softer skills such as responsibility, time management, teamwork, and communication. These are skills the inmates can take with them when they return to their families and communities.

SLAAR was formed to help abused, neglected and at risk animals. Our primary goal is to rescue animals, provide them with needed care and then find them safe, loving homes.

Virginia Equine Welfare Society (VEWS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit horse rescue located in Hanover County, Virginia. We are a 100% volunteer-run organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing horses in need. Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate equines in need and to prevent equine abuse and neglect through education and community awareness. We provide safe housing, medical, and rehabilitation services to abused, neglected, abandoned, unwanted, and other at-risk equines and eventually, at the appropriate time, place them into caring, compatible, adoptive homes.

We are a family owned and run farm, working with a core group of volunteers and partnering with local Animal Control and Law Enforcement when needed in order to assist with community rescue efforts. We are dedicated to rehabilitating, retraining & rehoming when we can, & providing lifetime sanctuary when needed. 

“Transitioning from where they were to a better future – both horse and human” Hope 4 Horses is a nonprofit public benefit corporation organized for public, educational and charitable purposes to rescue, rehabilitate and re-train horses, to educate the public with regard to the proper care and humane treatment of horses in handling them on the ground and under saddle.

MHF rescues, rehabilitates, and adopts out animals in need and promotes animal welfare through community outreach and humane education. We accomplish our mission through our various programs: intake and adoption, Trap-Neuter-Return, food and medical care assistance, humane education and internships, and volunteer.

The mission of Serenity Farm is to prevent equine neglect, abuse, abandonment where we can and rehabilitate and find loving, forever homes neglected or abused equines. We educate the public on the beauty and value of rescued horses. We give purpose to the lives of neglected or abused equines through interaction with humans, including emotionally or physically challenged individuals.

The White Bird Appaloosa Horse Rescue is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of abused, neglected and at-risk Appaloosa and other horses, especially those in urgent need and in danger of slaughter. Horses that cannot or should not be adopted are given permanent sanctuary so that they may live the remainder of their lives in safety and dignity. 

Freedom & Whiskey Equine Rescue rescues, rehabilitates, rehomes, and when necessary, provides sanctuary for horses and donkeys. We rescue from slaughter auctions, owner surrenders, and law enforcement seizures.

Hope’s Legacy Equine Rescue was founded in 2008 when we took in our first horse. Since then, we’ve operated as a foster-based rescue, taking in over 780 horses, ponies, and donkeys. Most come to us from Animal Control seizures, or from owners no longer financially or physically able to care for them. Some of our horses are in sanctuary, however most are available for adoption!

Our goal is to rehabilitate ex-racehorses for their new career and eventual new forever homes. Rainbows and Reawakenings for Thoroughbreds follows the Jockey Club re-entry program Thoroughbred Incentive Program.

Shenandoah Valley Equine Rescue Network (SVERN) is dedicated to providing care and rehabilitation for unwanted, abandoned, neglected, abused and malnourished horses while educating the public in equine rescue and all aspects of horse ownership and care. It is the goal of SVERN to be a resource for our community.
